FAQ

Common questions

What is Tavern, exactly? +
A desktop app for Windows that unifies your game library, friends, and family across Steam, Epic Games, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, EA App, and the rest. We sit on top of each launcher — none of them go away — and give you one place to actually use them.
Is Tavern a store? +
Not in v1. We're a unified library and social app today. In a future phase, we'll add a store that brokers purchases through Steam/Epic/GOG with a small convenience markup (~$0.05 per purchase). That whole thing is permission-first — we won't list a platform's games for sale without asking them first.
What data do you store on your server? +
Email + argon2id password hash + optional display name for Tavern accounts. Linked launcher IDs (e.g. your SteamID64) when you choose to link them at /account. Session tokens are stored as SHA-256 hashes only — the plaintext lives in your cookie. No third-party trackers, no analytics, no marketing pixels. Full breakdown at /data-storage.
Are Tavern accounts available now? +
Yes — Phase 1 shipped accounts and Steam linking. You can sign up at /signup, verify your email, and link Steam at /account today. Other launchers ship in Phase 3 — the "Notify me" buttons on each launcher card record interest so we can email you the moment that one comes online.
Will Tavern be on macOS or Linux? +
Not in v1. Windows first, because that's where 95% of PC gaming actually happens and where every launcher we want to integrate ships a Windows-first client. macOS/Linux are on the roadmap, no fixed date.
Is Tavern paid or free? +
The desktop app is free. The eventual store carries a ~$0.05 convenience markup per purchase — that's our entire business model. No subscription, no premium tier, no ads.
