Privacy at Tavern.

Last updated 2026-06-10.

The short version

Tavern stores the minimum required to run the service. We do not sell, rent, or share user data. We do not run ads. The unified library, friends, family, and achievements you see in the desktop app are pulled from your existing launcher accounts — Tavern doesn't replicate your library to a server unless you explicitly opt in (Phase 3+ cross-device feature).

What we collect

The full inventory is on /data-storage. Summary:

  • Email address (you give it to us at signup)
  • Password hash (argon2id — we never store the password itself)
  • IP address hash (SHA-256, used for abuse prevention; not the raw IP)
  • Steam account ID once you link Steam — to fetch your library
  • Per-game cover art served from our cache — for everyone, anonymously

What we don't collect

  • Real names (unless you put one in your Tavern profile)
  • Payment info (we don't sell anything in v1)
  • Browsing history outside Tavern
  • Telemetry, page-view tracking, fingerprinting, or third-party analytics
  • Your launcher passwords (we use OAuth / OpenID — never see them)

Cookies

One session cookie when you sign in. That's it. No advertising cookies, no third-party cookies, no consent banner because there's nothing to consent to.

Email

Transactional only — signup confirmations, password resets, "your beta slot opened" announcements. No newsletters, no marketing, no third-party email providers selling your address. You can delete your Tavern account anytime and the email is gone with it.

Deletion

Email [email protected] with "delete my account" and your email address. We delete the user row, session rows, and any associated linked-launcher entries within 7 days. The per-game cache (which is per-game, not per-user) keeps its data because it never had your identity.

Changes

We'll update this page if anything material changes and bump the date above. If something is enough of a change to require new consent (e.g. we add a feature that meaningfully changes what we collect), you'll see an in-app notice the next time you sign in.
